just bumming around on tvtropes when I come across this:

“When Harry is attacked by Quirrel/Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest and is rescued by Firenze, the other centaurs object, citing “the stars.” Even Firenze himself mentions to Harry that he hopes that he and his fellow centaurs have been misreading them. Considering the fact that centaurs are particularly gifted at astrology, they’re probably seeing Harry getting killed by Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest at the end of Book 7, and don’t want to interfere with destiny.”

I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF THAT OMG.

The His Dark Materials trilogy are my favorite books in the world. They have everything in them; amazing story-telling and prose, great characters, elements of fantasy, science-fiction, physics, spirituality, love… and the message they send is so true and the ending is so beautiful and sad and uugghhhhhh. I love them lol.

Truly though, while His Dark Materials may be what I consider the best books, Harry Potter will always be my absolute favorite. Almost everybody says that, but whatever, it’s true. The Lord of the Rings is amazing as well… I really like fantasy and science-fiction. I’ve just started Imajica, by Clive Barker, and it will probably end up one of my favorites. Another great one is Wicked, by Gregory Maguire. Even just the imagery and vocabulary of it is mesmerizing.

One book I’ve started for a class is Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, by Annie Dillard, and it’s become one of my all-time favorites. It’s a vaguely spiritual, sometimes scientific, powerful reflection on the author’s time spent observing nature over the course of a year. She writes about biology, psychology, ontology — but it’s all very poetic and artistic… it’s great.

oh yeah, and you can’t forget the good old Catcher in the Rye.

I think it’s nice that Voldemort always waits until the end of the school year to try and kill Harry.

Despite his flaws, Voldemort really cares about Harry’s education.
